Time just to be

Chatting to people in my neighbourhood, waving to someone on my bike, enjoying a slow cup of coffee, baking with my daughter are all memories that I will savour from our lockdown time. Having time to be in the moment and really be still is the take away benefits from this time.

There are many frustrated and worried people wondering what the future holds for them and their families. But I think the learning is; worry about tomorrow when tomorrow comes rather than now. I used to live in The Philippines, I think back to those days now. The pace was slower then, time to chat to the neighbours and share a cup of coffee. There was (and still is) incredible poverty there and many worried people, but that never seemed to feature strongly in their day to day. We all know the message around living in the now. But actually living, while our worries are kept in check and figuring out how to be in this lockdown is difficult stuff. I definitely don’t have the solution on how to make it easy.

Every day, I start fresh, saving the big stuff for when it matters and saving that until tomorrow. I am lucky, I know that, my family is safe and secure. We are doing our bit in our own small way. Free feijoas at the gate, being part of the essential services and helping our neighbours with requests where we can.
